Project phase 2, follow-up of the GSL (Green Space Logistics) project

context, objectives

The gREen spACE logistics Tool (REACT) project, is the direct sequel of the Green Space Logistics (GSL) project from 2022 to 2023.

After GSL, a proof-of-concept for a simplified, space-specific, prospective Life Cycle Assessment tool, the Assessment and Comparison Tool (ACT), convinced ESA FLPP to continue in the development, and mature it enough so it can be disseminated, and used by the European space sector.

The new project ambitions to see the development of a stable and flexible ACT v2 for rapid LCA of (future) space transportation vehicles, with an extended scope and more LCA functionalities, assuring compatibility with other tools, and to test it with real data to show robustness and relevance. The LCA methodology shall be consolidated, and the user friendliness and streamlined use in engineering design processes improved.

A commercialisation work package investigated the potential for a business case based on the outcomes of the project. A tool-based consultancy service is expected to spin-off from EPFL to continue the development of the tool and its dissemination.
