What an incredible three days at the Swiss Space Sustainability Research Days 2025!

🚀🛰️ From January 6 to 8, we had the privilege of organizing an event that brought together Swiss and international experts from academia, law, military, industry, and government to dive deep into the future of sustainable space operations.

Key highlights from the event:
🌍 International collaboration was at the core – from space traffic management to sustainable satellite constellations.
🔑 The launch of ESA’s Zero Debris Charter, aiming for 100 signatories by 2030, marked a major step toward a cleaner orbital environment.
🪐 Cutting-edge research on space debris remediation, hypervelocity impact studies, and rapid deorbiting protocols are pushing the boundaries of space sustainability.
📊 Exciting new metrics for space sustainability, similar to CO2eq for climate change, will help measure and guide the future of space operations.

A huge thank you to all the participants who made this event a success! Your insights and enthusiasm are key to driving the future of space sustainability. We’re proud to have organized this impactful event and to have been part of such an inspiring dialogue. 🌌 Red Planet Day: A Celebration of Mars 🌌

On November 28th, we celebrate Red Planet Day, honoring our cosmic neighbor, Mars. Known for its distinct red hue due to iron oxide, Mars has captivated human curiosity for centuries.

This day marks the anniversary of NASA's Mariner 4 mission in 1964, which launched on November 28th and made history in 1965 as the first spacecraft to flyby Mars.

Since then, we've seen revolutionary missions like NASA's Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, and rovers like Spirit, Opportunity, Curiosity, and Perseverance delve deeper into Mars' secrets. But let's not forget the vital contributions from European missions!

The European Space Agency (ESA) has played a crucial role in Mars exploration with missions like Mars Express, which has been orbiting Mars since 2003, and the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter, launched in 2016 to search for traces of methane in the Martian atmosphere. These missions have provided invaluable data to expand our understanding of the Red Planet.

Looking ahead, Europe continues to be a key player in space exploration with future collaborative missions like the Mars Sample Return mission, set to bring Martian soil back to Earth. This groundbreaking project is a joint effort between NASA and ESA, furthering international cooperation and the pursuit of knowledge.

Red Planet Day reminds us of the incredible human ingenuity and persistence that continues to push the boundaries of space exploration. As we look at Mars shining brightly in the sky, we celebrate not just its mysteries, but the scientific achievements—by both NASA and ESA—that have been made to approach it and uncover its specific and incredible properties.
